'Dard Se Be Niyaaz Hone De Ay Shab-e-Hijran Kuch To sone De, Aaj Ek surkharu Se Milna Hai Aaj Aankhain Lahoo Se Dhone De, Kaash Koi Humain Bhi Ashk Apne Saans Kay Taar Main Pirone De, Kuch To Sooch Apne Haal Per “Mohsin” Khud ko Yoon Raigaan Naa Hone De.'

whysunni:

Dear brothers and sisters, Eid Mubarek to all of you and your families, to all of our Ummah worldwide. Although Eid is generally filled with joy, it is also accompanied by sadness as well for our situation globally is very fragile and devastating at the same time. May Allah always increase our eman and let us work for and support those who have spent their lives working for the deen no matter wha t its consequences. May He shower on all His blessings and reward and for all those who have been martyred in His cause and let us be inspired by and look to them with hope and courage. We should be so honored to be in the company of such greatness. Inshallah this will be the last Eid of suffering and oppression for all. May we all be successful in this life to establish Islam so that we may reap the benefits of the next. Many won’t see this but they are all in our thoughts and prayers and to our brothers and sisters in Syria and Burma and all over where there is oppression, you are our inspiration and you are what keep us motivated. The more you sacrifice, the further we push in our boundaries and find strength we never even knew we had so thank you for making us strive to be better Muslims. May He help us to be successful, accept our prayers, and our fasts. Eid Mubarek to all sisters and brothers of Mohammed’s Ummah.

This body of work is an exploration of the extent of cultural appropriation and encourages a discussion about it. I give the appropriator and the appropriated the opportunity to defend themselves and create a dialogue between them, while maintaining a neutral stance myself. I am not attacking those who appropriate, merely educating and creating awareness. I’m also exploring appropriation myself, and discovering the carying degrees of it within this visual conversation.

I’d like to make this a long term exploration, with a lot more participants as a form of generation-wide debate. If you’d like to be photographed to add your point of view, please do not hesitate to pop me a message here or an email at sanaahamid@yahoo.com and we could work something out!
